Libi
"LIBI" is a personal performance by choreographer Ryan Djojokarso, translating social issues into a playful and poignant piece. Drawing from his Surinamese roots, he explores the question: What is life like? The script is based on stories of Surinamese immigrants to the Netherlands, bringing their migration journey to the stage through a whirlwind of memories. From growing up in Suriname to deciding to emigrate, the journey, the arrival, the homesickness, acclimatization, and the sense of loss are vividly depicted.
For the performance, we used various types of theatrical snow to create different dramatic spaces, transforming from a blizzard to a serene snowy landscape, and even to a busy beach.
